About Us

Knowledge Centre WMC is a research institute for materials, components and structures. The major activities are fundamental and applied research on Fibre Reinforced Plastics (FRP) and wind turbine structures.

WMC is working for both the European and Dutch governments, as well as for the international industry. WMC develops design tools that are being used worldwide by many of the largest wind turbine manufacturers. Results of our work are published and presented internationally.

WMC is actively involved in international standardization committees. For the experimental research WMC has a laboratory for material research and a large test area with a dedicated strong floor enabling testing of structures of over 60 metres in length, such as rotor blades for large wind turbines. Testing machines up to 300 tonnes are available for material and component testing, both static and fatigue. The facility is one of the largest of its kind and has its own workshops (mechanical, electro technical and hydraulic) for development and maintenance of equipment and test rigs.

WMC offers services for setting up testing facilities around the world. WMC is situated at a unique location along the border of the IJsselmeer, which enables the transport of large structures to the facility.
